Jewellery plays a huge part in your overall look: the right jewels can instantly update a classic outfit, can change a look from day to night, or dress up or tone down.
We've come up with a few handy tips to help accessorise your outfit with your new jewels.
Consider the tones in your outfit: very Autumnal colours such as brown, camel and creams suit gorgeous golden jewellery – antiqued gold chains in particular, complement most skin tones. Likewise, for a bolder statement, choose contrasting colours (just keep the base tones complimentary!) or pick out an accent colour and choose your jewellery to match. Incorporating gemstones into your look is a perfect way to introduce splashes of colour and in particular for those who like their jewellery to be as minimal as possible, a simple ring would be the perfect way to finish an outfit.
Think clean lines and classic shapes; with quirky pieces of jewellery, keep the rest of the outfit low key in order to avoid too much ‘clutter’ to the eye. With a classic dress and smart clutch bag, the jewellery can speak for itself and convey all the personality you want to give it!
Below are a few guidelines to style different types of necklines and outfits with different necklace lengths:
Polo necks and roll necks are quite versatile but avoid anything too short (anything shorter than an 18” chain is going to get lost) but other than that, you have a lot of options. Shorter statement bib style necklaces will liven up your outfit or extra long necklaces (such as 24" or 30") are perfect for this sort of neck line.
Like with the high neckline, some shorter necklaces can become lost with a high neck. A round neckline will look best with a choker or an opposite ‘v’ style necklace in order to stand out so an 18" or 24" pendant would be perfect.
Depending upon the depth of the v-neck, a shorter necklace which sits within the v will likely be your best choice. For a shorter v-neck, a small 18" pendant would be ideal or for the deeper v, you could select a bolder more eye catching piece.
Shorter necklaces are best with this type of neckline: for a collar which has the first couple of buttons undone, an 18" necklace which sits within the neckline works well. For a more preppy look, keep your buttons done up and layer an eye catching piece over the top!
Straps and strapless
A longer 24" or 30" necklace would compliment this style of outfit best, with it sitting just below the bust, showing off a low cut top - great for evening wear. For every day outfits, the versatile 18" necklace would also work well.
